RGB Measurements

Detecting the damage caused by natural disasters

Natural disasters such as floods, hail, and extreme heat can cause significant damage to infrastructure and crops. With the help of a drone equipped with advanced sensors and an RGB camera, it’s possible to quickly and accurately assess the extent of the damage. By capturing high-resolution images from above, the drone can provide detailed information on affected areas, allowing for efficient and targeted response efforts.

Example: measuring the extent of damage caused by a natural disaster

The Zenmuse X5S is equipped with an uprated Micro 4/3 sensor, 8 standard M4/3 lenses, and a CineCore 2.0 image processing system. It is capable of capturing 5.2K 30fps CinemaDNG video, Apple ProRes video, 4K 60fps using H.264, and 4K 30fps using H.265 at 100Mbps. It is stabilized by a 3-axis gimbal with pinpoint-precise motor rotation and a control accuracy of 0.01°.

Multispectral Measurements

Detecting the invasive species

Invasive species pose a significant threat to crop yields, biodiversity, and ecosystem health. With the aid of a drone equipped with advanced sensors and a multispectral camera, it’s possible to detect and identify invasive species in crops quickly and accurately. The multispectral camera captures the images of the crop canopy, which are processed together with RGB images, to identify any areas affected by invasive species.

Example: identifying the invasive species in the crop

The multispectral camera

Parrot Sequoia has four 1.2MP multispectral cameras (three for RGB spectrum and one for infrared) capable of recording at 1fps. It also has an inertial measurement unit and a magnetometer. Together, these sensors can analyze plants’ vitality by capturing the amount of light they absorb and reflect, thus allowing farmers to make better decisions for their fields.

Termographic Measurements

Irradiance and solar productivity estimation

Drone thermography is a non-destructive analysis technology that uses infrared airborne photographs to gather data. This happens as a result of the radiation released by the environment, which can determine the temperature. Because of the thermal camera on the drone, it is possible to do a thorough mapping of the region, checking the object or the surface in a quick and easy manner.

Examples: thermal and irradiance measurements of different surfaces

The thermal camera

FLIR Tau 2 OEM thermal imaging cameras offers an unmatched combination of features and reliability, with image processing modes that dramatically improve detail and contrast through continuous histogram equalization. Radiometry is available in every pixel for both 640 × 512 and 336 × 256 resolutions and all three camera grade levels
